Since my first connection in the dream space with these majestic mammals I felt the great potential which comes from the meeting with them. I saw them as strong beings, despite their great size they swim smoothly and gracefully through the vast, undiscovered ocean delivering some information for humanity. During my first trip to New Zealand, I felt the great need to make contact with them. I travelled with Don and a group of friends to Golden Bay on the north of New Zealand’s South Island. Above the bay there was a head of land that reminded me of the same image in the Polish Baltic sea. It was some 20 odd kilometres long. Unfortunately the tour bus that goes to this place was broken and the only way to get there was walking.
I went as soon as possible into the unknown. Inside me I felt the deep need to meet the whales and get in touch with them. On the inner side of this headland was a quiet bay with weed growing out of the shallow still water. On the outer side of the headland was the infinite ocean, cold, deep and wild. I moved on, leaving behind my friends and the building which stood at the beginning of this headland. The scenery changed from rocky to sandy and I began to feel a strange tingling in my body and slowly lost my sense of self, as though the Tom I knew just stopped existing. The sound of the breath and the steps mixed with the wind and the ocean waves, into a sound which reminded me of the sound of the Gong. Heading on in the direction of the ocean, being fully here and now I found a bone (which later I found out was part of a whale bone), a bird feather and a stone shaped like a heart.

When I reached the outer edge of the headland I came to the shore and put my feet into the water and I felt I was guided to this place by an inner part of me. I realised that for a very long time I had been experiencing strange “coincidences” regarding my search and answer as to where I come from. The voice that talked to me was like a Song which told me the story of our ancestors, where they came from and at the right time I will see the whole picture made by all the pieces “remember when you need to contact us look into the sky and call us from the heart space. We come from the stars and we came here before many cycles. Now we are passing through the depth of the waters enjoying being. Everything is in the right order as it was, is and shall be”. In some sense I felt it was late and time to return. It was a long way to get to the place where I had left from, where my friends were waiting a little cross as I disappeared for many hours without letting them know. I also realised that this moment took a few hour and my perception of time changed. The same evening our great friend Maureen, who invited us to her place told me the story about the where I had been.
About the amulets that I found on my way and the “Songs and Wispers of the ancestors” who came to that place a long time before us. That place was the meeting place with ancestors for the Maoris, which I connect very much with the consciousness of the whales. Everything was falling into place and the memory of the ancestors awakened within me for ever. A few years later I ended up in Puerto Piramides on Argentinas Atlantic coast, to meet the whales. The experience was great and I felt this as a dance, we danced as though we were one. I also realised they like this dance. I was given a lot of inspiration though this meeting and felt I wanted to meet them again, for a longer period of time, in the space of the Gong and with Friends. A year later with a group of friends and acquaintances we ended again in Puerto Piramides with a few Gongs and other instruments and a program which included Gong Yoga, some Gong Baths, playing together from the coast and meeting the whales in the ocean.
Our friends prepared this project as a scientific project which meant we had some privileges. It was decided we would try to capture the whole event in sound and picture. The scientific project was to observe the response and/or communication between the whales and the gongs, not only through vocal communication, but also through physical expression. Through the perspective of my previous experiences, I knew it possible to connect with the whales from within the heart space. In a few old books and traditions the whales are the keepers of Akasha. Through the experience of the sound of holistic resonance, the Gong also offers us access to Akasha, which is confirmed by those who experience the Gong Sound. I thought the idea of meeting them and playing with them through the Gong could be interesting and open new possibilities. When we arrived to the small welcoming Port Village, we were placed in one of the hostels close to the port. The girl on reception, Laura, who welcomed us, after a chat and further investigation we realised is my cousin from my mothers side. Her ancestors came to Argentina in 1947 and did not have contact with the family in Poland since. That was a “coincidence”!!
When we first came to the shore, I saw the mother Whale with her child and immediately I placed the hydrophones (underwater microphone) into the water and began to listen… After a few minutes I heard the first sounds of the whales, they were strong and loud. The sound reminded me very much of the deep overtone singing, floomies on the Gong and Didgeridoo. The whales were about 150 metres from the coast. Many times I have experimented with human sound and the sound of Singing Bowls underwater, but this was a very strong sound. For me it was interesting to observe the power of the sound traveling through water. I am talking about the sound which is audible by the human ear. The moment turned again into a space without time…
The next day, after a few meetings with the sound of the Gong and Yoga, we went to the coast. This time, with the Gong and other instruments. The tide was coming in inevitably, to the east the full moon was rising and to the west the sun was setting. Without waiting for the crowd to arrive we started to play the Gongs. The whales were coming from both sides of the bay. All friends were watching with great excitement. With great majesty the giants of the ocean move in this vast expanse of water, so easy, so free, I felt the beauty of this moment. Here and now for everyone, like time did not exist and we all found each other in a completely different space. The sounds of the Gongs were flowing though the ethers with the wind, raising up and coming down.
The sun was slowly sinking into the water. I looked at the peoples faces and they were painted with inner happiness, tears, smiles and great peace of spirit. The following day after daily activities we went to meet the whales from the boat at open sea. When we reached the last bay, again we saw a mother with child. We came closer to them and began to play the Sedna Gong, which we had installed on our boat. The whales came closer to the boat and in some sense began to play with us. Swimming under the boat, appearing and disappearing. At one point the mother whale jumped high, landing hard with such an explosion of sound that it was not possible to register splashing hundreds or maybe even thousands of litres of water around her giant body.
Each of us on the boat were united in our astonishment at the scene we had just witnessed. Moments later the Captain of the boat informed us that not far away four dolphins appeared. We got closer to them and they began to escort our boat, in their own unique dolphin dance, next to them swam the whale mother and child. Complete euphoria broke out on the boat, including screaming and shouting! Again we were in that space of here and now, with a smile on our lips and in our hearts. It was a great experience.
When they left we waited for the next one, but destiny told us we had enough for today. As the sun was going to sleep, the full moon shone brighter and brighter in the sky when the Captain gave the signal to sail back to shore. That was the end of our escapade. On the following morning after saying farewell, we left this magical bay, keeping in our hearts those beautiful moments. A few days later when I listened to the underwater recordings, I was transported right back to those moments…
I realised that I can’t say for sure if the whales were responding to the sound of our Gongs and other instruments within the sense of hearing of our human ears which is between 5 and 25,000 herts. Nor can I say that they were responding to the sound of the Gong in their dance and movements. Through my feeling, I can definitely confirm that our worlds are connected, or rather, we got back to understanding this connection through our direct experience which was beautiful and valuable. Not just because we hear that on the coast of Puerto Madryn at least 100 baby whales died this year, most probably as a result of the water pollution by the local aluminium factory, but because we actually experienced the meeting. One thing that I know for sure is that the space that was created through our meeting with the whales and the dolphins was a space of here and now, where each of us surrendered to the very moment with an open heart without thoughts of the past or future.
We are the connecting vessel with the beings of the world of the water, oceans, the world of the Gong, the world that lives in functional harmony despite our conditions or differences. I would like to thank the organisers, Vivi Garcia and Monica Mickiewicz and the rest of the Argentine Gong Family which is an example of the growth of the summation tones, (this copulation effect that creates tone children which is the effect of the Gong). In 2004 Don Conreaux began the Gong travels in this country and two years ago they leaped into warp speed this is why the Gong is such a well known instrument in many places of this beautiful and vast space as are the members of the Gong Family. Special thanks to my partner Abby Delsol that she is, that she made it possible that the Gong may arrive in this country and because of that I am here and now. Happy Birthday Abby, today is your birthday.
We would like to invite everybody from the sound family to an adventure tour next year here in Argentina, Chile and Ecuador.
Much Love to All
